The Break-Up

May 15, 2011 - Breaking up is hard to do, especially when you share a sweet condo in Chicago. Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn find out the hard way in this film from 2006. Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman and Vincent D'Onofrio have supporting roles.

Aniston plays an art gallery worker named Brooke. Vaughn is Gary, who works with his brothers at a business that gives bus tours of Chicago. Together, Brooke and Gary seem like a solid couple who live together in a very nice condominium. But, appearances can be deceiving and underlying issues boil to the surface one night during a dinner party. Brooke and Gary try to go their separate ways, but that proves difficult while they're still living under the same roof.

Overall review: ** It's an OK movie that's an OK way to spend 1:45 if you don't have anything better to do. Aniston is fine, but I'm not convinced that Vince Vaughn is leading man material. Ultimately, I didn't feel particularly invested in either of the main characters. The issues they had didn't seem like anything that a little give and take wouldn't cure. But, since they didn't seem to be interested in saving the relationship, I wasn't interested enough to care.
