Date Night

August 30, 2012 - Steve Carell and Tina Fey get more than they bargained for when they decide to treat themselves to dinner at a trendy Manhattan restaurant. The cast includes Taraji P. Henson and Mark Wahlberg, with cameos from the likes of Mark Ruffalo, James Franco and Mila Kunis.

Carell and Fey play Phil and Claire Foster, a married couple from New Jersey. He's a tax attorney, she's a realtor. Between their jobs and their children, they hardly have time for each other. But, they do make an effort to go out once a week to the local steakhouse, where they pass the time by making up stories about the other customers.

One night, Claire put on heels and a dress to spice things up a bit. Phil takes notice and whisks her off to dinner at the hottest restaurant in Manhattan. The only way they can get a table is to pretend to be another couple and steal their reservation. Turns out they picked the wrong couple. Instead of dessert, the Fosters get danger and an adventure that spices up their marriage in ways they never expected.

Overall review: *** (more like 2.5, but I'm rounding up) There's not a lot to dislike here. Fey and Carell do well in their roles, there are a couple of running gags, and I really enjoyed seeing all the cameos. The movie was funny, but it also had a lot of heart as Claire and Phil learned that they still have a lot to learn about each other.
