I Love You, Man

March 17, 2013 - Paul Rudd and Jason Segel fall into a full-blown bro-mance in this R-rated film from 2009. The supporting cast includes Rashida Jones, Jane Curtin, J.K. Simmons, Jon Favreau and Jaime Pressly. Lou Ferrigno appears as himself.

Rudd plays Peter, a real estate agent in Los Angeles. As the movie opens, he's proposing to Zooey (Jones), his girlfriend of several months. As Zooey starts planning who her bridesmaids will be, it dawns on Peter that he has no close male friends to fill out his half of the wedding party. So, he sets out to find one.

Peter's gay brother tries to help by setting him up on some "dates." Fate, however, proves to be the real matchmaker as Peter meets Sydney (Segel) when Sydney crashes an open house that Peter is hosting. The free-spirited Sydney appears to be the perfect yin to Peter's reserved yang until Sydney takes things a little too far.

Overall review: *** This film provides an entertaining twist on the standard boy meets girl scenario. In this case, the boy already has the girl, but their relationship is threatened when he meets a new guy friend. The plot and Rudd's character of Peter are "off" just enough to make this film interesting and heartwarming instead of simply creepy.
