The Pacifier

May 20, 2006 - In this 2005 comedy, Vin Diesel plays a Navy SEAL who has a very busy few weeks.

Diesel is given the assignment of protecting the five Plummer children while their mother goes overseas. Their father, a government scientist, was killed by people who want to get their hands on his latest invention, something called Ghost.

I missed the first 10 minutes or so of this movie. When I tuned in, Plummer's wife, played by Faith Ford, was just about to head for Switzerland, where Plummer left the key to Ghost in a safety deposit box. Diesel was showing up to protect the kids.

His assignment was only supposed to be for a few days. But, it gets extended because Mom doesn't know the password, and the bank people won't let her look at the box. So, while mom thinks and thinks and thinks about what the password could possibly be, Diesel has to change the baby, learn the Peter Panda Dance, teach martial arts to a troop of Brownie types, direct a musical, teach daughter #1 to drive and humiliate the school's vice principal. He also finds time to flirt with the principal, an ex-Navy officer played by Lauren Graham. Phew!

Overall review: ** Entertaining in spots. But, despite trying to be a feel-good comedy, this movie felt very mean-spirited.
