Suspect Zero

February 24, 2007 - Do all serial killers have a pattern? The possibility that the answer is "No" is the premise for this 2004 drama. Aaron Eckhart, Carrie-Anne Moss and Ben Kingsley star.

Eckhart plays Tom Mackelway, an FBI agent who's been banished to the Albuquerque office because of something that happened several months ago in Dallas. Moss is Fran, his former partner/lover.

Soon after arriving in Albuquerque, a traveling salesman is murdered and his eyelids are cut off. Fran is brought in to help Tom handle the case. Then, a similarly murdered victim is found nearby in the trunk of a car. And, shortly thereafter, the killer whose case nearly destroyed Tom in Dallas is also found murdered in the same fashion.

All clues lead Tom to a mentally suspect man named Benjamin O'Ryan (Kingsley).

Overall Review: ** It is difficult to say more about the plot without giving it away. Suffice it to say that it takes a while for things to develop. For about the first third of the movie, the viewer is no more sure than Tom about what is really going on. If you can stick with the film through that part, the rest of it is OK.
